What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation includes all approaches to increase the quality of life of the person. It is aimed to make the individual to be independent and in interaction with the society in self-care activities. 

Physical therapy; is a non-pharmacological treatment for musculoskeletal system diseases or injuries, including applications to relieve pain such as hot and cold application to the body, electrical currents, spine traction, massage and exercise. It can be applied alone or in addition to oral treatments. 

Rehabilitation is a form of treatment aimed at regaining lost movements and abilities that occur congenitally or later. 

Which Methods Are Used in Physical Therapy?

There are different methods to be applied as physical therapy. One or more of these treatment programs may be preferred depending on the patient’s condition. 

  • Cold application (cold-pack)

  • Hot application, (hot-pack), (infrared, paraffin)

  • Deep heat (ultrasound, shortwave diathermy, microwave diathermy, ultraviolet)

  • Electrotherapy, (galvanic, faradic, TENS, diadynamic, interference, laser therapy, electrotherapy with vacuum,

  • Iontophoresis with ultrasound or electrotherapy

  • Hydrotherapy (spa treatment, pool treatment, balneotherapy and fango applications) 

  • Mechanotherapy (mobilization and manipulation, traction, massage, splint, corset, bandage etc.) 

  • Therapeutic exercise practices.

  • Pain relief taping applications. 

What are the Goals of Physical Therapy?
